Congratulations to the Rays for starting the season with a thrilling victory thanks to a 9th inning hit by Carl Crawford.  They are now on pace to go 162-0!  I am sure they will.  They did pick up Soriano in the offseason to help with their closing pitching issues so that is a plus.  They might be able to contend this year.  Losing Aki to the Pirates in the offseasonwas a blow but Ben Zobrist is more than capable of taking his place.

On the flipside, why do the Tampa Bay Lightning even take the ice?  What an insult that team is to any ticket purchasing fan.  I haven’t seen such pathetic performances back-to-back by a hockey team in quite a while.  First, they lose 5-0 to the New York Rangers and then follow that up with allowing 5 goals in the FIRST PERIOD to the Carolina Hurricanes.  They ultimately lost 8-5, which sounds close.  I saw Carolina take the lead 7-2 in the 2nd period and flipped to the Rays game.  The problem with playing this poorly is that both games were at home.  Purchasing tickets to see the second worst team in the Eastern conference already shows some damn good fan commitment.  Then, the team gets blasted 5-0?  Pretty embarrassing.  Seriously, where are the refunds?

As for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they better sign somebody of consequence soon.  We need help at receiver and defensive line and there are players available.  Haynesworth is available via trade, Alex Brown is a free agent, Adewale Ogunleye, Jimmy Kennedy, Jevon Kearse, Bertrand Berry,  T.O. is out there, Brandon Marshall by trade, Laveranues Coles, Muhsin Muhammad, Josh Reed, Javon Walker (take a risk with a minimum deal).  So far, our big splash was trading for Reggie Brown who has a sizeable contract that runs through 2011.  So, obviously they expect him to hang around for a couple of years and apparently be the #1 or #2 receiver.  Sad.  Going for youth is great… if those players have a chance of becoming stars.  Sometimes, you need older mentors to bring those players along.  You know, mentors that have actually accomplished something in the league, not like Reggie Brown.  Trade a second or third for Haynesworth, sign Alex Brown, trade down in the draft to have two first round picks, draft Dez Bryant and CB Joe Haden or another cb.  OK?
